It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post, and I’ve missed connecting with you here. I trust you are doing well Recently, I celebrated my birthday—a reflective one, to say the least. I found myself sitting down to write a letter to God, thanking Him for how far He’s brought me, acknowledging His faithfulness, and asking, “What’s next?” and “Where next?”
As I penned my thoughts, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for all that God has done in my life. Yet, I was also acutely aware of the work still to be done—the purpose yet to be fulfilled. This moment of reflection got me thinking about you, my readers.
Are you asking the right questions about your relationship?
When it comes to relationships—whether you’re dating, engaged, or married—it’s easy to get stuck in the “What’s in it for me?” loop. But what if we shifted our focus to “What does God want for me and from me in this relationship?”
This isn’t just a theoretical exercise; it’s the key to building a relationship that honors God and brings you true fulfillment. So how then do you ask the right questions?
Here’s how to start asking the right questions:
1. What Is God’s Purpose for This Relationship?
Relationships are not just about companionship or love; they are about purpose. Proverbs 19:21 says: Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”Ask yourself:
- How is this relationship helping me fulfill God’s purpose for my life?
- Are we encouraging each other to grow spiritually, emotionally, and mentally?
If the answers are unclear, it might be time to pause and seek God’s direction.
2. Am I Building with the Right Foundations?
In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus talks about the wise and foolish builders. A wise builder constructs their house on the rock, ensuring it can withstand storms. Similarly, your relationship’s foundation determines its strength. Reflect on these:
- Are we building on faith, trust, and communication?
- Is Christ truly the center of this relationship, or is He an afterthought?
3. Am I Wholehearted in This Relationship?
Colossians 3:23 reminds us to do everything with our whole heart as unto the Lord. Relationships require effort, commitment, and vulnerability. Ask yourself:
- Am I giving my best to this relationship, or am I holding back out of fear or insecurity?
- Am I willing to sacrifice, forgive, and grow for the sake of this union?
4. What Is God Teaching Me in This Season?
Every relationship—whether thriving or challenging—has lessons to teach. Sometimes God uses relationships to refine us, build patience, or teach us humility.
- Are you open to learning what God wants to teach you through your relationship?
- Are you allowing the Holy Spirit to guide your responses, decisions, and actions?
A Call to Reflect
As I reflected on my birthday, I was reminded that life is a journey of constant alignment with God’s will. The same applies to relationships. If you’re not asking the right questions, you might be building on shaky ground, missing out on God’s best for you.
So today, I encourage you to pause. Write a letter to God about your relationship. Thank Him for what He’s done, ask Him what’s next, and listen for His guidance.
Remember, God wants your relationship to thrive—not just for your happiness, but for His glory. Building wholeheartedly means putting Him first and trusting His plan. That’s how you create something beautiful and lasting.
Let’s talk in the comments: What’s one question you’ve been asking (or need to start asking) about your relationship? I’d love to hear your thoughts and walk this journey with you.
I will be writing more often so please let me know what you would like me to talk about. Till next time, keep being mindful of doing what God expects you to do.
